80s aerobic tv show by Daniel[_2_]
Hi all, During the early 1980s there was an aerobics program on tv (USA). I believe it was a daily show and somewhat early in the morning, though I don't remember the specific time. It usually featured three (?) women doing aerobic exercise, one who was the lead and two followers. I think the...

Review of the NordicTrack CX 995 Elliptical trainer by SBC
We recently purchased the NordicTrack CX 995 Elliptical, and we like it very much. It's solidly built, works very smoothly, and has a lot of useful features, including a wireless heart-rate monitor. It has one big flaw, in our opinion, in that you can't mute (or even reduce the volume of) the...

heart rate vs blood sugar by [email protected]
Hi, I've noticed that after about 30 minutes of heavy-hand exercise at around a 13 MET level, my heart rate seems "magically" to go up as much as 10 beats per minutes. That is, if I'm at 130 during the first 30 minutes, staying at the same level of exercise yields around 140, plus or minus, for...

How often should i do pushups and squats? by Jim Janney[_2_]
writes: Hello. How often should I do pushups and squats? I'm a thin guy; I don't intend to lose weight. I don't want to use equipment, I need calisthenic exercises I can do anywhere. I want to do them to ward against stiffness, and also to keep a toned body without...

Any comments about the Essential XT4 elliptical? by ksoze
Finally got to try a few ellipticals at the local stores. Originally, I thought about the Eclipse 1000HR but the cheap feel and noise made me feel that it wouldn't be worth the money. I had heard good things about the Kettlers, but when I tried the Condor, I didn't like the foot pad pitch -- felt...

Is heart rate a good measure of fat burning? by wizzywiz
Hello, there seems to be little consensus on which exercises burn how much fat. So, can I just measure the intensity of my calorie burning by monitoring my heart rate? Thanks....

Does eating red meat increase our height/muscle mass? by Prisoner at War

Reducing Bodyfat by RM
What is the right way of reducing body fat percentage for men? Some say more of strength training and little of cardio and others say more of cardio and little of strength training. I want to get in to some exercise program to reduce my BF% from 25% to less than 20%. I am confused on the...

Treadmill headrush? by Help Me
I used a treadmill today for the first time. When I was done and walked off the treadmill, I felt a "headrush" -- a disorienting feeling. Is that normal? Or does it mean that I did something wrong? I walk and bike ride periodically. I tend to walk at 4 MPH on flat terrain.

$500 elliptical trainer recommendation by GRL
I bike 20 miles a day at 17-20 mph (pretty quick) during/summer/fall for exercise. Love it. However, winter is coming and that means snow and slush and that makes riding the bike a little tough. So I'm looking for an alternative for winter use. I've tried elliptical trainers (bikes) and they seem...

Fitness level and calories burned by Sasha
I wear a heart rate monitor when I exercise, and I check how many calories I have burned. About 6 months ago, I recorded the amount of calories I burn when doing a 1-hour advanced Tae-bo tape - it was 270 calories (I weight 104 lbs.). However, when I did the same tape yesterday, the number of...

IQ-Sport Qruzer Spin Bike repair parts by Johnny Two Pedals
The local fitness center has a number of Qruzer spin bikes, manufactured / distrubuted by IQ-Sport (or Q-Sport), formerly of Santa Barbara CA. A few of these bikes are dead, and need repair parts. Unfortunately, IQ-Sport is out of business, leaving no forwarding address. Before I break out the...

Parts for Vitamaster Sports 89C Stationary Bike by MarkW
I just got a Vitamaster Sports 89C Stationary Bike at a yard sale. I know it's old and nothing fancy but for $5 I figured I can't go wrong. It works except for the digital readout for calories, speed, mileage, etc. I thought it may need a battery but it seems to work by a generator mounted on the...

Slow Jogging - Weakened Heart - Why? by Nelson Win
At 48 I returned to slow jogging after a break of many years. I wanted to improve my low energy levels. I took it easily and slowly, following all medical advice as regards frequency and intensity (complied with Ken Cooper's recommendations to the t). Yet my heart was weakened by it. After 8...

Dear Friends: Rosemary Vernon leads out the November issue of Dolfzine, now on line, with a review of Pavel Tsatsouline's Power to the People and then gives her personal take on how to adjust routines that seem, at first glance, too hard and to a gifted few too easy. It is clearly winter and...
