Why is running better than elliptical? by Rupert
I hear time and again: "Elliptical machines are great for low impact, but running is even better." But nobody ever says why. Is this just the attitude that runners have? Do people think this because running is high impact and harder, or is there some real justification for this statement?

elliptical for resistance training by poo
I'm learning (from you all) how important resistance training is to long term fitness. I have an elliptical, and can go for long amounts of time on it, but lately have tried for more perfect form and much higher resistances for shorter periods of time (which _feels_ a lot harder, I sweat more,...

Cross Country Ski Machines by FB
Has anyone tried the Fitness Quest Edge Cross Country Ski Simulators Model numbers 420 or 450? Opinions? I like the Nordictrack ski machine but these Fitness Quest models are much less expensive. Thanks.

Hi. I live in Wisconsin and am looking to get certified (or whatever the requirements are) to teach aerobics and step aerobics so that I can teach a class at my work. I've taken aerobics and other fitness classes for years and this is something I've always wanted to do. Does anyone know how this...

aerobics/cardio dvds by R.C.
Does anyone know of any good cardio/aerobics DVDs? I have had great success with Billy Blanks. However, I am looking for other DVDs in order to eliminate boredom, and I am not sure which ones work. I am not into 70s aerobics/trendy pilates/cheesy DVD. I want ones that work!! Any suggestions?...

Okay to Exercise with Sore Muscles? by Sonny Maou
Okay, I'm still pretty sore from my return to the pitch two days ago. Is it okay to stretch sore muscles? Is it okay to work them again, say with some jogging/walking/sprinting? Or do they need to heal first? Thanks!

Soccer Fitness by Sonny Maou
What's the fastest way to outdoor soccer fitness? :) I'm guessing sprints on a daily or every-other-day basis, or maybe interval runs. I've got a church parking lot across the alley from me, and I jog the long sides and sprint the short ones. Hopefully I'll be able to go faster and longer as time...

Sore calves by Angela St.Aubin
Lately, when I have been jogging, outside, or on the spot, my calves have been tensing up and becoming sore very fast. I never had a problem with this before, and it isn't the same soreness you get after as long workout. It almost feels the way your leg does right before a Charlie horse comes on,...

Classical Gas by d w a c o n
I'm finding that more and more women at the gym seem to have gas... was working out on the stair stepper when a cute blonde got on an adjacent machine and after a few minutes she nearly asphyxiated me. What's up with that? -- I made magic once. Now the sofa is gone.

How many calories to lose fat? by Help Me
It is commonly said that we must burn 3500 more calories than we consume in order to lose a pound of body fat. Is that really true? First, does that assume that we are burning 100% fat calories? If so, is that ever true? My understanding is that when we exercise, x% of the calories come from...
