Stair master differences? by d c
Is the free climber equally effective to the stair climber? They both have the same programs and seem to burn the same amount of calories. Just wondering. -- The generation that used acid to escape reality

Polar Chest Strap on Precor Not Working by j
My aparment building just installed a new gym with Lifecycle treadmills and bikes and Precore Elyptical rainers. I have a Polar heart rate monitor and when I wear the strap it works great on the Lifecycle equipment but not at all on the Precor eliptcals. The elypticals do have the hand grips and...

Treadmill headrush? by Help Me
I used a treadmill today for the first time. When I was done and walked off the treadmill, I felt a "headrush" -- a disorienting feeling. Is that normal? Or does it mean that I did something wrong? I walk and bike ride periodically. I tend to walk at 4 MPH on flat terrain.

Polar heart rate monitor battery life of transmitter by Joe
I consider that Polar (or at least their UK agent Leisure Systems International) are not very open about the battery life of the sealed transmitter unit. After just 2.5 years they recommended that I spent 34 pounds on replacing the battery in the watch part AND obtaining a new sealed transmitter...

Elliptical trainer adjustment query by Karen
Hi there, Could someone offer some advice to an elliptical trainer (and exercise) newbie please. I've recently bought a Proform 585EKG elliptical trainer. It's very adjustable, nine positions for the pedals and three or four for the upright. The question I have is what am I looking for when I...

$500 elliptical trainer recommendation by GRL
I bike 20 miles a day at 17-20 mph (pretty quick) during/summer/fall for exercise. Love it. However, winter is coming and that means snow and slush and that makes riding the bike a little tough. So I'm looking for an alternative for winter use. I've tried elliptical trainers (bikes) and they seem...

IQ-Sport Qruzer Spin Bike repair parts by Johnny Two Pedals
The local fitness center has a number of Qruzer spin bikes, manufactured / distrubuted by IQ-Sport (or Q-Sport), formerly of Santa Barbara CA. A few of these bikes are dead, and need repair parts. Unfortunately, IQ-Sport is out of business, leaving no forwarding address. Before I break out the...

Parts for Vitamaster Sports 89C Stationary Bike by MarkW
I just got a Vitamaster Sports 89C Stationary Bike at a yard sale. I know it's old and nothing fancy but for $5 I figured I can't go wrong. It works except for the digital readout for calories, speed, mileage, etc. I thought it may need a battery but it seems to work by a generator mounted on the...

Any comments about the Essential XT4 elliptical? by ksoze
Finally got to try a few ellipticals at the local stores. Originally, I thought about the Eclipse 1000HR but the cheap feel and noise made me feel that it wouldn't be worth the money. I had heard good things about the Kettlers, but when I tried the Condor, I didn't like the foot pad pitch -- felt...

November Issue of Dolfzine on Line by Ron Dobrin
Dear Friends: Rosemary Vernon leads out the November issue of Dolfzine, now on line, with a review of Pavel Tsatsouline's Power to the People and then gives her personal take on how to adjust routines that seem, at first glance, too hard and to a gifted few too easy. It is clearly winter and...

Review of the NordicTrack CX 995 Elliptical trainer by SBC
We recently purchased the NordicTrack CX 995 Elliptical, and we like it very much. It's solidly built, works very smoothly, and has a lot of useful features, including a wireless heart-rate monitor. It has one big flaw, in our opinion, in that you can't mute (or even reduce the volume of) the...

Opinions on Lifecycle 5500 Exercise Bike? by DK
I see a lot of used Lifecycle 5500 exercise bikes for sale at decent prices. For you owners of this model, how well do you like this bike? From what I understand, they aren't as quiet to ride as the newer electro-magnetic resistance bikes, right? How loud are they? How many years can you expect...
