Definition of a Mountain by toad
I can't find a good definition of a mountain anywhere. Probably because there isn't one. According to URW what makes a Hill a mountain? Is it 2000ft, 1000ft? I've heard 500m as a definition. Up to now AFAIC if it *feels* like a mountain then it is a mountain, is there a better perspective?

TR - Mountain Hares at Bleaklow by Chris Gilbert
Pat Bennett wrote I then spent some time moving around quietly among the heather hummocks, with binoculars getting increasingly wet, with not a single hare to keep me company. Ah, that's because you were in the wrong place. We were up there on Wednesday and we saw five hares on the moorland...

BBC Weather forecast by Nobody Here
Some months ago when the BBC started its new forecasting graphics there was a lot of debate on here complaining how bad it was, a sentiment that I largely agreed with at the time. However, I have to say that I've come to appreciate the new format now, and I prefer it to the old. It seems to give a...

First Aid by Richard Phillips
Hello all, What first aid items/kits do you all tend to carry? I've got a Lifesystems Trekker pack myself. Wondering if I should be carrying a more extensive kit than this? Cheers, R.

Where's everyone gone? by Paul Saunders
Is it just me or have there been only seven posts in the last three days? (Not including the one I just posted.) According to my records, I've only got 5 posts for Saturday, 1 for Sunday and 1 today. Is everyone else seeing the same or have I missed a huge bunch of messages somehow? Or are you...

Calling all wlaking Chiropracters, Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and Doctors by Trevor
Possibly the most important (to me), posting I've ever made. A few years ago (2/3) I was happily walking 20-30 miles per day in mountainous terrain (I am 54). I have had a lower back problem since 30 when there was a sharp click which laid me out on the floor. Now I can only manage 8 miles (I...

tolls and parking charges by simon
I am starting to get alarmed at the costs of getting to the countryside by car. There is this feeling that I have that as a motorist I am fair game for any organization that wants to extract money for me under some guise or other. Is there a website somewhere that provides information on...

TGO Winfarms? by Another group member
Hello, As a long time reader/subscriber to TGO magazine I am becoming more than a little alarmed at its self indulgent manner. The Editor seems to think that his view is everybodys view. The magazine is so far to the left that it must be meeting itself on the way back. Winfarms for example. What...

walking boots-- which are good? by john bently

While storing some stuff up the loft, I found some old photographs which I must have taken many many years ago. But I don't know where it is! So, for a bit of a fun competition, who can name where I am? http://b_innes.tripod.com/whereami.html --

Walking with Poles by Amanda
At the end of the summer I will be doing the Lyke Wake Walk, which is a 40 mile walk across the Yorkshire Moors.
