Is heart rate a good measure of fat burning? by wizzywiz
Hello, there seems to be little consensus on which exercises burn how much fat. So, can I just measure the intensity of my calorie burning by monitoring my heart rate? Thanks....

Legalized draft by Harold Buck
I just spotted this on the USAT website: effective June 1, all USAT age-group events will be draft-legal. They said something about wanting a larger pool of people with drafting experience to draw from for the US Olympic team. It will be interesting to see how this turns out; I think a lot of races...

FLATTEST im by Rick \(Saga 35\)
I am hoping to do an Ironman in 2005. Biking will be my biggest challenge. Which Ironman has the flattest bike route? I am not worried about the marathon on hills, just the biking.

Swimming - let's try this clarification by topdog
I'm used to explaining things in a pool setting, where demonstration is 90% of the explanation, so we're having a lot of misunderstandings. However, I think I can make it more clear this way. Let's say that there are three elements to swimming. To some extent, these are sort of like blocks to a...

How important is the flipturn? by Matt Fifer
Hello, I am currently in disagreement with my partner who says learning how to do a proper flipturn is not imperative to triathlon training. I come from swimming background, and therefore cannot stress enough the importance of learning how to effectively and easily make a turn at the wall...

Problem with Bionic Woman's running. by [email protected]
From the previews I've seen, it seems that they attribute her super speed to rapid stride turnover, much like the silliness of the old series. The bionic legs still have to attach to flesh and bone at some point, and there's going to be a limit to what the human parts can take. Wouldn't great...

Timex Bodylink vs Garmin Forerunner by Jim
I would appreciate any opinions from users of the Timex Bodylink or the Garmin Forerunner GPS units. I would like something to measure the distance travelled on streets so I can compare it to distances on the track or treadmill. Thanks, Jim

Why do I smell of ammonia? by mikep
I've found that when I train hard (run or bike) for more that one hour I sometimes smell of ammonia. At first I thought it may have something to do with my workout clothing, you know the way some microfabric/coolmax seem to smell bad after a while that washing just won't get rid of. But I've...

Run Turnover Rate by Chris Maginn
I'm looking for info on run turnover rate. My turnover rate has traditionally been rather low (may 160). Upon the advice of my Tri coach I've spent more time on the treadmill working on increasing this up to 175-180. Anyone have an expert opinion on this subject or can point me to a site that...

Hello fellow runners, I've been trying to maintain my running schedule as the weather has turned colder. I don't like treadmills or the track, so I'm braving it and goung outside. I've got all the right winter garb -- wicking base layers, a good jacket, hat, mask, etc. However, last few times...

Why aren't tri's more proportional? by topdog
I was going to ask this before, and then I saw the following quote today - (snip) I just wish there would be some longer distance non-drafting events that had fairer swim lengths. (Change of topicg!?) The ITU long distance races are closer to the Olympic Distance proportions than IM distance...
