legs vs. lungs, running vs. cycling by Matt Daly
I have found that the limiting factor in my running is my lung power: I run out of breath before my legs give out. In cycling, it's the reverse: I can often easily breathe through my nose only while my legs scream with pain. At around 160 BPM, I am breathing hard while running but not at all when...

Renting a road bike in Ibiza by Des
I've got a two week holiday in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza in the lead up to Half Ironman UK and need to rent a half-decent road bike while I'm there as I'll be in an important phase of training. I'd be very grateful if anyone has any contacts for shops, triathlon clubs etc on the island. My hotel can...

Beginners Triathalon by Atre
I want to do a triathalon next month aimed at beginners, it sounds not so bad, it is a 150m swim, 7km ride and 1.5km run. Problem is I can't run at all. Every time I try to jog or run, as soon as I go 300m or so I am gasping for breath. I can only manage 600m at the most at a horribly slow...

Heart rate for training by Broooz
Please can I have some advice about training on a heart rate. Several triathlon books say you should do about 80% of your training at 60-70% of maximum heart rate. However that seems very low to me - in the past I have done most training at 80% of max or even higher. Take my figures as an...

Lance Armstong and the Ironman by [email protected]
I am just curious as to whether Lance Armstrong can be a serious threat at the age of 40 when he competes at the Ironman in Hawaii this October? Or will his age be against him from being up there with the best in the world? Lance has done pretty well in the 4 half Ironman races he has entered this...
