Sleeping Bag Liners by *Paul
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a sleeping bag liner to improve the warmth of my sleeping bag. Does anyone know how much difference these make? Will silk provide better insulation than Cotton? How many more degrees of protection would I get with a liner? Cheers

Eskdale road closure by Mark Manning
In Eskdale over the weekend, I noticed a sign on the Brotherilkeld side of Wha House Bridge, talking about the road being closed for ten days (ten working days?) while repairs were carried out. If I've interpreted it correctly, the section of road between the King George IV pub and Wha House...

IOW coastal path by Zinc Potterman
I recently replied individually to some people who had expressed interest in walking around the Island. I compiled a detailed list of campsites plus lots of other relevant info. One of the replies to: came a-bouncing back to me as undeliverable. I did try. Probably...

TR: a real treat in Eskdale by Mark Manning
I'd been deprived of hill time for months, and I'd only had a short Christmas break, so needed some holiday, and particularly hill time! After weeks of bad weather at weekends, Friday and Saturday were looking very good for the Lakes, so I took Friday off and headed north. I set off from Wha...

TR; Ben Sgulaird by Nick \(Scots\)
My 142 Munro. Left the Green Welly stop at 9am, hoping to avoid icy roads. A few wobbles up the A82 between Tarbet and Crianlarich made me ultra cautious. Nice drive up thru the glens in blue skies and lotsa snow. Loch Creran is along meandering sea loch and

Champagne and Jura by me
Looking over a couple of self guided walking trips in the North eastern areas of France. One is in the Champagne region and the other is in the Jura area. Wondered if anyone around here had walked in either region and could compare them to similar areas in the UK? Also would be interested in...

Second Series on Discovery Channel: Deadliest Climb: Everest by John Dawson[_2_]
I watched the first series which I found eye-opening, particularly the queues climbers had to endure, for example, at bad step bottlenecks or even to get a place on the summit. Tim who carries a lot of metal in his skeleton as a result of traffic accidents is back, his summit fever last time almost...

Safety on Hills Course by Josey
Greetings, Treat me gently because I'm new to hill walking. I've read the Boot FAQ, that was very helpful. I don't see much in the google archives about NNAS though. I haven't done any map reading since school (decades ago) and don't really want to end up on the news dangling from a...

The Pentland Hills near Edinburgh by Dave[_12_]
They're less than 2000 feet high but there are lots of good walks here. I have thousands of photos although only about 1800 got edited for the screen. The best 300 or so can be browsed quickly with thumbnails and a brief description he http://www.henniker.org.uk/html/pent_index.htm (None are...

Rights of way across golf courses by [email protected]
I regularly use a public footpath across a golf course. I've always believed I had right of way. In other words, while it might be foolish to head across the fairway when a golfer is in the process of making his shot as you appear, if he sees you he must not play a shot until you have passed. ...

TR - Munro - An Socach (Glen Shee) by Lindsay
An Socach 6 January 2008 I had neglected this area during the past few years for mountains further west so it was nice to return to Glen Cluanie, which was just under ninety minutes drive from my home, to re-ascend a hill I first climbed many years ago. In fact I wasn't certain where in Glens...

TR: High Raise from Grasmere 2-day backpack by GeoffC
Another winter circuit of Easedale from Grasmere culminating at High Raise, approaching via the Helm Crag ridge and returning via the Easedale Tarn path. The MWIS forecast was for 90%+ chance of clear tops, but it was a lot worse than predicted with mist on the high peaks, and there was snow...

Well, my plan earlier in the week for a trip to Yorkshire (today Saturday) changed so an ideal opportunity for a sunrise on the South Downs. Left home at 0640 and was leaving Harting Down car park by 0720. Nice crisp morning, although the temperature had returned above freezing so the ice was...
