Suggestions for a charging framework by
[email protected]
Re charging for SAR and path maintenance, here are some suggestions of
how it might be structured.
· Annual recreational licence of £100 for walking/climbing on
ground not owned by government to contribute to Search and Rescue and
maintenance of paths, removal of rubbish etc.
· Short-term...

Broken Ankle by
Gordon H[_3_]
Placed my foot in a shallow depression on the moors above Hayfield,
after 6 miles of an 8 mile walk, and went down like a log.
There was a horrible crack, heard by my mate 2/3 paces ahead.
After the shock wore off it was obvious I couldn't continue.
I used Pete's walking pole to hobble to a...

Scottish mountains - how on earth can anyone pronounce them? by
Peewiglet
I've been poring over the map of Scotland, but no sooner to I begin to
develop an idea of where I might like to walk than I forget where it
was, because I can't begin to pronounce about 95% of the place names.
Is it all a malignant plot to keep nesh Southerners out?
How on earth does anyone ever...

Pay for your rescue. by
[email protected]
A letter that might be of interest:
Dear Sir
Pay for Rescue
Now that Search and Rescue services are to be privatised perhaps it is
an opportune time to consider charging those who indulge in risk
taking recreational activities such as sailing and hill-walking for
the cost of their rescues. I...

Basic navigational skills badly missing by
Rodders
4 men who were found after a search in the Cairngorms had good equipment but
poor navigational skills were a few miles from where they thought they were.

Canon EOS 300D by
Paul Saunders
I had a look and a feel of this camera in Jessops today, and I must say
that it's got a really good solid feel to it, but at the same time is
surprisingly light. I didn't weight it, but it seemed to be no heavier
(or bulkier) than my G3 with the wide angle converter (the converter
does add a lot...

Time to Pay! by
[email protected]
Time to Pay!
I am interested to see that there has been a suggeation that walkers
should pay for their use of the West Highlland Way but I would suggest
that £1 a day is well below the market value.
Walkers should accept that almost all other sports and pastimes have
to pay for the upkeep of...

Pyrenees Ordessa & Gavarnie - camping & temperatures. by
brendan
Hi,
I know this is slightly OT as we're not walking in the UK, but I was hoping
someone from here who had been to the Pyrenees could help us out in English
etc.
We're flying from Stansted to Zaragoza next week to walk across the
Pyrenees - flying out of Toulouse the next week. We were planning...

I Love Argos by
Leonard Trim
As someone else mentioned Argos are now selling the Pro-Action tent for
fifteen quid, so I popped up the town and bought one to stick in the
attic for the day my first one expires on me. While in Argos I noticed
they were selling a Pro-Action 65 litre rucksack for a tenner! Promptly
bought one for...

Speaking of Notebooks... by
Paul Saunders
For those who haven't been keeping up with these things, a notebook is a new
breed of portable computer which is a cross between a Laptop and a Netbook.
Netbooks are cool in that they are very small and light (around 1.2kg) with
good battery life, but are underpowered and have very small screens...

Corbett - Breabag TR by

Tuesday 18 July 2006
We parked at the Salmon Hatchery on the east side of the A837, 3.5
kilometres south of our overnight accommodation at Inchnadamph Outdoor
Centre. The midges, flies and clegs were upon us immediately we
alighted from the car and my client, Janice, was ready in record time
and...

Sunsets by
AndyP
Is it possible to tell in advance when good sunsets or sunrises are going to
occur? Clouds were a nice tinge of pink last night but haven't seen any
really good ones for a while.
